2011 New Year’s Wishes with Dancing Cranes Chinese Brush Painting on Double Xuan Paper

chinese painting ink Happy New Year 2011!

Among all Asian cultures, the crane has been a symbol of happiness and wisdom and longevity. Since the end of WWII, the folded paper cranes also came to symbolize a hope for good health and peace.

As I mentioned in the video this painting is a tribute to master Wu Guanzhong(吴冠中), who passed away on June 25, 2010 at the age of 91. Also, I would like to thank Linda Grace in New Mexico for her inspiring report of a cranes watch trip. I wish I could see Bosque del Apache myself someday. As I tried to demo in this video Master Wu’s expressive contemporary Chinese painting style is very suitable to paint the cranes there.

One year ago I have made a promise on Youtube that I would do at least one video tutorial per week in 2010. I am glad that I have kept my words. For 2011, I will try to continue to make teaching video no less than 2010 at HD quality. If you have watched my Youtube channel for more than a year and you have not yet started to learn Chinese painting, here is my suggestion for your New Year’s resolution: why not start learning Chinese brush painting? :-)

I hope you and your loved ones a peaceful New Year!

Love,
Henry Li

Beautiful–gives the wonderful feeling of what it’s when the cranes fly in at dusk and start dancing.

I like the drip as it reminds me of the beautiful line patterns of the legs of the cranes as they move.

Thanks so much for this video, and also for introducing us to Master Wu Guanzhong, who I didn’t not know about. I just looked up his work & love it.
